Eco Carpets Made out of Shoes

It is pretty amazing what you can create by reusing materials. From using beer cans to make a surfboard, old monitors to make clocks and candy wrappers to create a prom dress, reusing materials, whether they be old or just something you don’t want to waste, can completely bring something back to life.

I have been apartment searching for a month in Seattle and seen many places. The one that caught my attention was a place that had eco friendly carpets! How so? They were made out of recycled SHOES! I couldn’t believe it when I heard but I thought the idea was really interesting. Made by using rubber and raw materials from athletic shoes, the carpet is extremely soft and spongy-like. Nike has a similar program where people called Nike Grind where people can donate their used shoes that are then transformed in to carpets, running tracks and more.

Reuse A Shoe

I was curious about how common eco carpets are so I did some research. I was surprised to find out that the red carpet at the 83rd Academy Awards was made out of recycled plastic bottles! How cool!
Out of all the apartments I looked at, the one with the eco carpets turned out to be the winner! I made sure to be as green as possible when moving by using resuable bags and FrogBox. I look forward to now finally relaxing in my new place and telling all my visitors about the cool green carpets (good thing they aren’t literally green…)!
